Listen to “Christmas Story – Santa's Day Off” on Spreaker.
It was the day after Christmas, and Santa Claus was exhausted. He had delivered millions of presents, guided his sleigh through blizzards, and double-checked the Naughty and Nice listsβtwice!
βI think Iβve earned a little break,β Santa said, leaning back in his favorite armchair. βFor the first time in years, Iβm taking a day off.β
Mrs. Claus smiled. βYou deserve it, dear. But what will you do with a whole day off?β
Santa thought for a moment. βIβll do something Iβve never done beforeβvisit the kids and see how theyβre enjoying their presents!β
The elves buzzed with excitement as Santa swapped his red suit for a cozy green sweater and a warm scarf. βIβll blend in perfectly!β Santa chuckled. βNobody will recognize me.β
With a twinkle in his eye, Santa climbed into a small, invisible sleighβjust big enough for him and a few snacksβand set off for the nearby town of Snowy Hollow.
As he landed in the town square, Santa felt a little nervous. Would the children like their presents? He strolled through the streets, enjoying the sights of Christmas morning: kids sledding down snowy hills, families building snowmen, and the smell of cinnamon wafting from kitchens.
Then he heard itβa familiar voice.
βThis is the best toy ever!β
Santa turned to see a little girl named Emily holding a sparkling dollhouse. Her eyes were bright with excitement as she showed it to her friend Daniel.
βIβm glad she likes it,β Santa whispered to himself, feeling proud.
Further down the street, Santa spotted a group of kids playing with colorful kites. One of the boys, Max, grinned as his kite soared high above the trees. βIβve never flown a kite in winter before! This is awesome!β
Santaβs heart warmed. But as he walked further, he noticed a boy sitting alone on a bench. The boy had a shiny new sled beside him, but he wasnβt smiling.
Santa approached cautiously. βHello there, young man. Why arenβt you out enjoying the snow with your sled?β
The boy, whose name was Noah, sighed. βItβs a great sled, but my best friend moved away last week. We always raced together. It doesnβt feel the same without him.β
Santa felt a pang of sympathy. βSometimes, sharing something with a friend makes it extra special,β he said gently. βBut maybe you could find someone new to share it with.β
Noah shrugged. βI guess.β
Santa had an idea. βHow about I race you? I might not be very fast, but Iβll try my best!β
Noah looked up, surprised. βReally?β
βReally,β Santa said with a wink.
Soon, they were at the top of the biggest hill in town. Santa climbed onto an old wooden sled he borrowed from a neighbor.
βReady, set, go!β Noah shouted, and they both zoomed down the hill, snow spraying everywhere.
To Noahβs delight, Santaβs sled flipped over halfway down, leaving him laughing in the snow. Noah crossed the finish line, grinning from ear to ear.
βThat was amazing!β Noah said, laughing so hard his cheeks turned red.
Santa brushed snow off his sweater. βYouβre a great racer, Noah. Maybe next time, youβll have a new friend to race with.β
Just then, another boy came over. βHey, that looked fun! Can I race with you?β
Noah smiled. βSure!β
As Santa watched the boys race down the hill, he felt his heart fill with joy. His day off had turned into a day of making sure Christmas magic lasted just a little bit longer.
By evening, Santa returned to the North Pole, tired but happy. Mrs. Claus greeted him with a cup of hot cocoa. βSo, how was your day off?β she asked.
Santa chuckled. βIt wasnβt much of a day off, but it was the best day Iβve had in a long time. Christmas isnβt just about the presentsβitβs about spreading joy, even after the big day.β
With that, Santa sank into his chair by the fire, already dreaming of next yearβs Christmas adventures.
The End!
