Another Adventure of Lilly and Willy

Lilly loved Willy, her new parakeet. She enjoyed watching him play with his toys, especially his favorite swing. But more than anything, Willy loved flying around the house and landing gently on Lilly’s shoulder.

Lilly’s mom was a substitute teacher. Whenever the school called her to work, Mrs. Miller came to take care of Lilly.

Mrs. Miller was always fun. She loved playing games, reading stories, and sometimes they even baked cookies together.

Before leaving for work one morning, Lilly’s mom reminded her, “Please don’t let Willy fly around the house while Mrs. Miller is here.”

“I won’t,” Lilly promised.

That morning, Mrs. Miller arrived early and started making Lilly’s favorite lunch—a peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

Just then, she heard a loud chirp.

Before she could turn around, Willy flew right past her!

“Lilly!” Mrs. Miller called.

Lilly was upstairs getting dressed. She hurried down the stairs as fast as she could.

But she was too late.

Willy landed right in the middle of the peanut butter side of the sandwich.

“Oh no!” Lilly cried.

Poor Willy tried to flap his wings, but his tiny feet were stuck in the sticky peanut butter. The harder he tried to pull away, the messier everything became.

Mrs. Miller gently picked him up while Lilly carefully loosened his little claws from the peanut butter.

“It’ll be okay,” Mrs. Miller said softly.

After a few careful moments, Willy was finally free.

Lilly wiped his tiny feet with a warm, damp cloth until they were nice and clean. Then she gently placed him back into his cage and made sure the door was securely closed.

Everyone let out a big sigh of relief.

Mrs. Miller looked at Lilly.

Lilly looked at Mrs. Miller.

They both started giggling.

Mrs. Miller had peanut butter on her hands.

Lilly had peanut butter on her shirt.

Even Willy had a tiny spot of peanut butter on one fluffy feather!

Soon they were all laughing so hard that tears filled their eyes.

Mrs. Miller made a brand-new sandwich, and Lilly headed off to school with a smile.

That evening, Lilly told her mom all about Willy’s sticky adventure.

Her mom laughed and gave Willy an extra treat.

“I think,” Lilly said with a grin, “Willy likes peanut butter a little too much.”

From that day on, everyone remembered one very important lesson:

If Willy is flying, keep the peanut butter covered!

The End.
