The Little Colour That Didn’t Want to Shine

In Rainbow Valley lived seven happy colours. Red loved blooming roses, Blue painted the sky, Yellow made the sun smile, Green danced through the forests, Orange glowed at sunset, Purple sparkled on flowers, and little Grey quietly coloured pebbles, clouds, and tiny sparrows.

Even though Grey worked just as hard as the others, Grey often felt unnoticed.

One day, Grey let out a quiet sigh.

“I wish I were bright like all of you,” Grey whispered. “No one ever notices me.”

The other colours gathered around.

“We notice you,” said Blue kindly.

“The world wouldn’t be the same without you,” added Green.

But Grey only shook their head and quietly slipped away to hide behind a big rock.

The next morning, something very strange happened.

Every single grey thing had disappeared.

The smooth pebbles along the paths were gone. Fluffy rain clouds vanished from the sky. Little rabbits could no longer find the stepping stones to cross the stream. Even Grandpa Owl couldn’t hide among the grey tree bark.

The whole valley seemed strangely empty.

The Rainbow Queen looked around with worry.

“Where is Grey?” she asked. “We cannot make a complete world with a missing colour.”

The seven colours searched high and low until they found Grey sitting sadly beside a quiet pond.

“I thought nobody needed me,” Grey said softly.

The Rainbow Queen smiled with gentle eyes.

“My dear Grey, the brightest colours bring joy, but the gentlest colours bring balance. Every colour has a special place, and the world needs every one of them.”

Grey looked across the valley and saw all the things that were missing.

Slowly, Grey floated back into the sky.

Soft grey clouds returned, bringing cool rain to the thirsty flowers. Smooth grey stones appeared across the stream so the rabbits could hop safely again. Grandpa Owl smiled as his familiar tree blended perfectly around him once more.

The valley felt whole again.

The seven colours joined hands and painted the biggest rainbow Rainbow Valley had ever seen. Behind it drifted soft grey clouds that made the bright colours shine even more beautifully.

Grey smiled from one end of the rainbow to the other.

“I don’t have to be the brightest,” Grey laughed. “I just have to be me.”

From that day on, every colourβ€”bright or softβ€”shone proudly in its own special way.
