My New Name
Another day inside my pen,
I kept on wondering just when
Someone would want me as their pet,
But all I did was sit and fret.
Some people stopped and looked my way,
My little sad face seemed to say,
“Please take me home with you today,
I promise we will laugh and play.”
Then one day I saw a little boy,
And suddenly my heart filled with joy.
He looked at me, and I looked at him,
I heard somebody call him Tim.
The gate swung open nice and wide,
I jumped right into Tim’s warm side.
I licked his face without a doubt,
And happy barks came bursting out!
He hugged me tight with all his might,
It felt like love at very first sight.
He took me home that very day,
And now we run and laugh and play.
I couldn’t wait to learn my new name,
Guessing it became my favorite game.
Then through the hugs and happy tickles,
Tim smiled and said,
“Your name is Pickles!”
