My sister and I begged for a pet
We would take care of it; you bet!
We wanted a dog. Our parents, said,”No.”
What about fish, a cat even a crow?
But one day our Dad brought home a surprise.
We couldn’t believe our eyes!
In the box was an adorable pup
Our eyes lit up.
We named him George. It seemed to fit
We taught him tricks and to sit.
We gave him a bath
But he jumped out
Spraying soap and bubbles all about.
Mom was upset that day
Things were not going the right way.
He went outside and met up with a skunk
We soaked him in tomato juice but he still stunk.
Mom was not happy about that
Maybe we should have gotten a cat!
We cleaned him up and he was fine
We all went out to play in the sunshine.
Mom came out and tripped on a stone.
George heard her moan and groan.
George barked and jumped, he knew she needed help.
We ran to see what was wrong.
Mom hurt her ankle and was hopping along.
Mom had to stay in bed and George stayed by her side until she was well
Mom was starting to like George; we could tell.
She knew on George she could depend.
From that day on George was Mom”s best friend!
The End!
